Accessibility Statement

I want McGill Counselling to be as accessible as possible. That includes using this website and accessing counselling itself.

Everyone's needs are different, so if there's something I can reasonably change or adapt to make counselling more accessible for you, please let me know. You can also tell me about any accessibility or communication needs on the personal details form before we begin.

Website accessibility

I've designed this website with accessibility in mind. This includes clear page structure, readable text, good colour contrast, descriptive links and layouts that work across different screen sizes. Images have alternative text where this is useful for understanding their content.

The website has been built with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 in mind. However, there may still be parts of the site that don't work perfectly for every person, browser or assistive technology.

If you find something difficult to use or need information in a different format, please let me know.

Accessing counselling in person

My counselling room is on the ground floor in East Kilbride, immediately inside the entrance to the building.

There is a threshold at the entrance and the internal doorway is approximately 686 mm wide. Unfortunately, this means the room is not suitable for wheelchair access. There is a toilet available, but this also has a doorway of approximately 686 mm and is not an accessible toilet.

There is on-street bay parking nearby but no designated accessible parking space. It is possible to drop off immediately outside the entrance.

The counselling room has two armchairs and a sofa and there is limited space to rearrange the furniture. If you have particular mobility or access needs, please get in touch before your first session and I can give you more information about the space.

Sensory and communication needs

You're welcome to let me know about anything that might make counselling more comfortable or accessible for you.

The room has several lamps, so the lighting can be adjusted. Fidget toys are also available if you find them helpful. The room is generally quiet, although there can occasionally be noise from neighbours or outside which I can't completely control.

I'm also happy to make reasonable adjustments to how we communicate or work together. This might include allowing more processing time, taking breaks, writing information down or using clearer and more direct language.

You don't need to wait until your first session to ask about any of this. You're welcome to tell me what would be helpful when you enquire or during our introductory call.

Online counselling

Online counselling takes place using Microsoft Teams and can be accessed using a computer, tablet or phone with a suitable internet connection.

I'm happy to use accessibility features available through Microsoft Teams where these are helpful. We can also discuss other adjustments that might make online sessions easier for you.

If using my online booking system or website forms is difficult for you, you don't need to use them. You can contact me directly and I can arrange appointments with you.

Walk and talk therapy

Walk and talk counselling takes place at Calderglen Country Park. The routes I normally use are mostly paved and relatively level, but outdoor conditions and terrain can vary throughout the year.

We don't have to follow a fixed route. We can adjust the route and pace, stop or sit when needed and discuss what might work for you before your first session.

If you're unsure whether walk and talk therapy will be accessible for you, please get in touch and we can talk through your needs.

Third-party services

Some parts of the website and counselling service use third-party services, such as appointment booking, online forms and Microsoft Teams. I don't have full control over the accessibility of these services.

If a third-party service creates a barrier for you, please let me know and I'll look at whether there is another reasonable way for us to do things.

Having difficulty accessing counselling or the website?

If you encounter an accessibility issue, need information in a different format or there's an adjustment that would make it easier for you to access counselling, please get in touch.

Email: danny@mcgillcounselling.com

I'll do my best to make reasonable adjustments where I can. If I'm unable to meet a particular access need, I'll be open with you about that.

Keeping this statement up to date

I'll review this statement as the website, counselling space or the way I provide counselling changes.
