Hey, I'm Danny.
I'm Danny McGill, a counsellor and psychotherapist based in East Kilbride. I work with adults and young people aged 16+, offering counselling in person, online and outdoors.
Choosing a counsellor is quite a personal thing, so hopefully this page gives you a sense of who I am, how I work and whether I might be the right person for you.
My route to counselling
Becoming a counsellor wasn't something I always planned to do! I changed career in my early 30s after therapy had already become quite an important part of my own journey. I've had therapy that made a real difference to me. I've also experienced therapy that just wasn't quite right for me. I like to think I've learned from both!
Knowing what it's like to sit on the other side of the room has stayed with me. It's a big part of my practice today. I try to create a space where people feel safe to be their authentic self as we work things out together.
I'm genuinely interested in people, mental health, human connection and nature - all things that eventually found their way into the work I do now!

Finding the right therapist matters
I believe that the best change comes about when there's a good relationship between you and your counsellor. That was my experience as a client and it's been my experience as a therapist too.
I won't be the right counsellor for everyone. That's why I offer a free introductory call. It gives us the opportunity to talk and get a sense of each other, and hopefully for you to see if you think I'd be the right fit for you.
What I'm like as a counsellor
My approach to counselling is person-centred at heart, which basically means that sessions are shaped around you and what's going on for you.
How that looks in practice is pretty simple – we'll talk! You bring what's going on for you, and I'll help you explore it a little more deeply by asking questions, reflecting things back and sometimes helping you notice patterns or look at things from a different angle.
I also work integratively depending on your individual needs, so we might bring in tools or techniques from other types of therapy when they might be useful. That could include practical CBT tools, mindfulness techniques or compassion-focused work for things like shame or self-critical thoughts.
Staying ethical and effective
I'm a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist and a Registered Member of the BACP working within their ethical framework. I also attend clinical supervision regularly and undertake continuous professional development. All of this helps me to work safely, ethically and effectively.

The counselling room
A calm, comfortable space to be yourself
If you're coming for counselling in person, we'll normally meet in my private counselling room in East Kilbride.
It's designed to feel warm, relaxed and welcoming rather than clinical. It's a space to pause, take a breath and focus on what matters to you.
